About the New Jersey Lottery

New Jersey lottery tickets first went on sale in 1970. The state started out with a weekly jackpot game, and in the following decades added a variety of ways to play, including daily draws and instant games.

In 1999, New Jersey joined the multi-state game The Big Game, which was later renamed Mega Millions. The state started selling Powerball tickets in 2010.

Profits from ticket sales benefit retirement funds for the state's public employees.
