Official Marketing JM 2024 Thread
Economist
36eb2024 will be a mess just like 2023, but in the middle of a recession. And interest rates are going up so I don't think people will take out loans to pay for masters or MBAs. Also, many didn't find a job in the last couple years and should be back on the market. Hoping to be wrong but I think it will be a very bad market.

4befWhich psych PhD students are trying the marketing job market this year or next year (2024 or 2025)?
yeah, they better try. given their focus on how sound/light impacts how people choose coffee, they have a good shot.
I hope they all stay away. What a waste of time interviewing someone who does not understand what a consumer is or what market cap means.

56e3I am an economist, IO but now started publishing in marketing.
Think around a top 5, 1-2 marketing journals, 1 rand and fillers. 3-4 years out.
Pipeline mostly marketing. If I want to get into marketing. Do I have a chance?
How are seasoned hires in marketing?
Are the ads on the ama website? Any other recommendations?

Are the ads on the ama website? Any other recommendations? You would have a good shot at a lot of the more econ-oriented groups. Attend some of the major conferences (SICS, QME) to make your interest known, then keep an eye on the summer job postings.

6e06Your research profile is what people want in Econ minded departments, so I think you have a good shot. You’d have some minor things to prove to departments but they’re pretty minor, especially if you have marketing pubs (so you’ve signaled you’re interested in marketing questions, and can help phd students).
Attend conferences and let people know you’re looking. I’d apply to any positions but you’re going to likely have more luck with seasoned/advanced assistant hiring which starts around thanksgiving- or used to.

Economist
efecAny predictions for the market this year?
1) A lot of people will get jobs
2) People will overhype some top school candidate just to talk sh*t when they don't match unrealistic expectations
3) Econ and industry people will continue to take top jobs
4) EJMR will lose interest in the job market around Thanksgiving
5) The spring market will continue to be stronger than previous years (especially for behavioral) including a few noteworthy schools
6) Indiana and OSU will lose out on candidates who chose to go to lower ranked schools just so they don't have to live in Indiana and Ohio
